Getting There

Air

Dublin is the major international airport in Ireland. Cork and Galway are also well serviced by European connections.

Ferry

You can catch a ferry to Ireland from the UK. The main routes include:

  • Fishguard to Rosslare
  • Pembroke to Rosslare
  • Holyhead to Dun Laoghaire
  • Swansea to Cork
  • Liverpool to Dublin

The main ferry services include Irish Ferries, Stena Line, and P&O Irish Sea Ferries.

Getting Around

Bus and Train

The train network, known as Irish Rail, runs through the main towns. The bus network is called Bus Eierann and covers the country comprehensively.

Car

While the public transport is good, outside of the major cities Ireland is a country best explored in a car. It will allow you to turn down quaint farm roads that lead you to nowhere in particular, but make travelling in Ireland a delight. All the major hire companies have offices dotted throughout the country.

Tiff
Heading to Dublin or Belfast? Instead of forking out for a Ryanair flight, adding in the extra costs of taxes, baggage and the Stansted Express, you can pay only £27 one way and catch a train and ferry, enjoying some wonderful scenery along the way. Go to Victoria Station in London and book at the service desk. Good news is the whole journey takes less than nine hours from London Euston to Dublin Ferry port, there are no hidden costs or limits on baggage, you get a range of views and prices only increase £2 during peak times. Or book online at www.raileasy.co.uk (we found it easier when we booked face to face).
That's a cracking idea Tiff, I wish I did that when I went because I bet you had a less stressful trip and saw some wonderful scenery.
