Beer, sausages and beer

beer sausages and beer

There are more than 150 different types of sausage in Germany

You don't travel to Germany for its cuisine, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't sample it.

Food

Sausages

There are more than 150 different types of sausage in Germany, the most well-known being bratwurst, which is made from minced pork and veal. Blutwurst is a blood sausage and the good old weiner is what you normally find inside a hotdog. Of course each region has their own local sausages as well.

Drink

What the German's lack in culinary experiences they more than make up for when it comes to beer. Some handy terms to learn include: Pils (pilsener) is a popular beer served throughout the country, Weissbier is a wheat beer mostly found in Bavaria. Alkoholfreies bier is alcohol free!

Kassler is lovely - salted pork cooked slowly in Sauerkraut, or sometimes Braunkohl. With some potato + mustard salad, a simple bread roll (Bratwurstsemmel) and a bottle of Riesling or (and) Gewürztraminer!
