Food and drink in Austria

An Austrian sausage

Food

The traditional Austrian meal won’t be quite as tasty as Italian or French but is definitely going to fill you up.

Sausages

One of the best ways to eat in Austria is at a wurstel stand (sausage stand). These are little kiosks selling a sausage in bread with mustard. These are invariably cheap and reliable, and the sausage is far tastier than your bog standard type you’ll get in a supermarket.

Drink

The Austrians love beer. Lagers and pilseners are most common, but it's also worth trying are the wheat beers (weizenbier).

Water

The water is safe to drink in Austria.
